Variety Access is currently starting to evaluate an exciting new range of citrus varieties in Australia.
The criteria for evaluation is to select seedless, preferably self incompatible varieties that have good rind colour, good fruit size with excellent internal qualities.
Varietal evaluation is currently underway and will be planted at a number of sites throughout Australia including Emerald (Qld), Mundubbera (Qld), Leeton (NSW), Kenley(NSW), Mildura (VIC), Renmark (SA) and Bindoom (WA) and Gingin (WA). Some candidates are showing some early potential.
RHM Mandarin currently been planted in Queensland.

A number of new plantings of the RHM mandarin are currently been planted in Queensland.
RHM is a chance seedling from an Ellendale mandarin with fruit maturing in late May to early June in Qld and expected to mature in June/July in the Southern Citrus Growing areas. The RHM has a high orange/red colour internal and skin colour with extremely good eating qualities. The variety is seedless to very low seeded in solid blocks but will have seeds if cross pollinated.
The RHM is protected by Provisional PBR registered in Australia and other overseas countries.

Frozen Juice samples of Ruby Valencia produced in South Africa were analyzed by the Florida Juice Industry.
The Ruby orange juice was found to have a color fraction exceeding 40.05. This color hue can supplement and enhance the juice quality of other bland juicing oranges.

The tour was very successful with an excellent exchange of ideas and technology between leading South African and Australian growers.
